New season, new style, new beauty looks to match. Here, we speak with Australian hair and makeup artist, and ongoing MAURIE AND EVE collaborator, Luana Coscia on the trends to know this spring/summer.

THE SLICK BUN

“Low to high, the pulled-back wet bun is a hero look this season. The best part? It suits quite literally, every event brief, and can take an outfit from laid back to ultra-chic in just a few easy moves. Wrap into a classic bun shape, or twist tight, manoeuvre and fasten into a snake-like silhouette. In any case, a flick on the bun is always fun … pull tight enough and enjoy the benefits of a mini facelift, too!”

PRO TIP: Mix your gel or mousse with water for easy application and added ‘slick’

BEJEWELLED

“For a more formal look, add a hair clip or accessory to your up or down style. Opt for one, solo statement, a smattering throughout a soft, aerated blow dry, or a dainty series of side-stacked clip-ins in a washed-out gold finish. It’s modern and classically feminine all at once.

Fasten a low-slung bun (or go half-up, half-down with a tortoiseshell claw clip for your next midweek meeting), or for something more fun, add some colour with the plethora of designs available at retailers like NET-A-PORTER.”

PRO TIP: Ensure a frizz-free base by drying products, including a humidify blocking cream into the hair first.

90s PENCIL STRAIGHT HAIR

“We’re still very much vibing all-things 90s and there’s no more quintessential sign of the times than pencil straight hair. It’s simple and can play into the sophisticated or laid-back zone with your choice of finish – high-shine or dry, respectively. Start by smoothing the hair before running the irons through (don’t forget your heat protectant!).”

PRO TIP: Heading out for the evening? Add a wet root for hit of grunge-glam

 NEON LIGHTS

“We’re enjoying expressing ourselves through beauty and colour is one of the best ways to do it. Neon bright liners and a wash of vibrancy on the lids is no longer a look reserved for the catwalk, with products like MAC’s Colour Express Gel Liner making its way into the day-to-day beauty kits of women the world over.”

PRO TIP: Preview NYLON for intense hues not for the faint hearted

HIGH SHINE

“Another classic 90s cue, high shine in either clear or coloured finishes for the lips, lids and cheeks is trending for summer. Don’t feel bold is always best, if you’re more of a natural/neutral makeup personality, introduce super subtle washes of muted tangerine – oranges and sunset hues that complement the complexion, and pop with perfection on sunkissed skin (SPF first!).”

DON’T TRY IT WITHOUT: Any lipstick by Fenty Beauty. I enjoy layering Gloss Bomb with Glass Slipper over the top.

EUPHORIA

“In the same vein as enhanced colour and shine, the Euphoria trend shows no sign of fading with glitter-gilded beauty looks on high request.”

DON’T TRY IT WITHOUT: Pat McGrath Shimmers and Australian owned CJP BEAUTY aloe vera based glitters
