As the sun slips away, it’s natural for us to notice a drop in serotonin as the cool sets in. This loss of our precious ‘feel good’ chemical can result in mood shifts, sleep disruption and unclear thinking … and who has time for that? Here, we chat 5 techniques to lifting energy, motivation, and manifestation through the winter months.
- SEEK OUT THE SUN
It may pack a little less punch come the cooler months, but the benefits are just as great. Research shows that even just 10 – 15 minutes of sunshine a day makes a noticeable difference to mood, sleep quality and can even lower blood pressure. Tick.
- DOSE UP ON VITAMIN D
Of course, with greater time indoors, our natural dose of Vitamin D (via the sun) is depleted through winter. This precious resource supports immune system, mood, and gut, so, reach for foods like spinach, bean, white beans, oats, salmon, and sardines to keep the levels lifted.
- SANCTIFY YOUR SPACE
With more of that precious commodity – time – spent around the home, ensure its primed for positive thoughts and proactivity. Look around -everywhere, the lounge room, study, kitchen cupboards and wardrobe. Let go of anything that doesn’t make you feel good, or has been holding space, unused, for too long. Clear space, clear energy - make way for inspiration.
- WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
Carve out space, daily, to note that objects, encounters, people and/or places you are grateful for. It could be a simple act of nature, a kind smile from your local barista, or your happy, healthy body that day. Then, focus on up to 5 goals/manifestations that you are moving towards. Close your eyes, picture yourself there, what does it look, feel and sound like? By focusing your attention on a particular area of your life, you will subconsciously work toward it.
- TRY SOMETHING NEW
They say change is as good as a holiday. Consider a new hobby/activity this winter. It’s an easy way to recognise your own personal interests, improve self-confidence and renew self-motivation.
