M & E: What inspired you to create PLUM-P, and what problem were you looking to solve in the skincare industry?
We sit down with our dear friends Rachelle and Simon founders of PLUM-P, the brand re-defining skin hydration with science-backed formulas and a passion for radiant, healthy skin. Founded on the belief that skincare should be both effective and effortless, PLUM-P harnesses the power of clean ingredients to deliver deep nourishment and long-lasting glow.

Nature is always at the forefront of our inspirations. The Davidson Plum appeared at a time that just felt perfect, an instant and deep connection was made and with it, an inner knowing of its healing attributes. It led us to integrate what we were already skilled at to capture its essence through fermentation and create something that would not only benefit the skin, it’s biome and overall health but was authentically artisan and unique.
Products with preservatives like sodium benzoate and sulphates disrupt the skin's natural ability to protect and heal, so we decided to correct this with PLUM-P.
M & E: Can you take us back to the very beginning of PLUM-P? What challenges did you face when starting, and how did you overcome them?
Over 8 years ago, we started our first trials. So many challenges. The product had to smell right, look right, feel right, and, most importantly, be effective and stable without preservatives. We had to wait for the 6-week fruiting season and pray for the best, trial after trial. We kept fermenting other fruit in between seasons as experiments and discarded a lot of ferments, we just kept going. During this time, we were managing and navigating our health through a crisis, relying on our faith in nature to support us along the way. Our failures and triumphs.
M & E: What makes PLUM-P different from other skincare brands on the market? What's your unique selling point?
PLUM-P tonic is a very unique water-based tonic with absolutely no sodium benzoate, sulphates, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate or without any other preservative added.
All of PLUM-P’s healing constituents have been derived naturally, some using fermentation. It’s so high in antioxidants, Gallic acid and other AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) all occurring naturally from the Davidson plum or as a by-product of fermentation. You can see the anthocyanin’s as the beautiful magenta colour in the Tonic and the Beta carotene as the orange colour in our serum.
*Again, water is the best carrier but always uses preservatives which interfere with the skin biome. No preservatives was our non-negotiable
M & E: PLUM-P seems to place a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethical practices. How do these values shape the products you create and your company culture?
We are a small company with a BIG HEART.
From the start, we tended to plum trees ourselves, picking and producing. Every step of the process is overseen by us personally, not just for quality control but to ensure that the product that you receive has been carefully tended to, loved and nurtured. Currently, one of the farmers is suffering from health issues, so we do what we can to support his health and wellbeing.
You reap what you sow, and our lives are filled with moments where we are sowing seeds of care, kindness and love, regardless of the outcome.
M & E: Can you speak to the importance of transparency in the beauty and skincare industry and how PLUM-P embodies that through your ingredient lists and production processes?
At PLUM-P, transparency is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the power of simplicity, using fewer, thoughtfully chosen ingredients to create products that nurture the body and mind.
